Artist Statement

I choose to work with textiles because of the versatility they provideme as a medium. The tactile nature of textiles allows me to form a strong physical connection with the work as I focus on detail and process. The association of textiles with comfort and nurturing also encourages me to work intimately with my material. My concepts for are drawn from my childhood, as well as my current adventure of young adulthood. This adventure can be terrifying, hilarious, and heartbreaking. I express this personal journey of my past and the present by pairing traditional textile techniques with contemporary themes such as delicate hand embroidery and symbols of pop culture. The intensions for my work is to playfully merge nostalgia from my childhood and its generation with the modern day culture and lifestyle that I am immersed in today.
